In this post we will discuss the importance of email follow ups to your new leads and what they should contain, Lets’s go!
The huge beginner mistake we all have made
Many marketing systems lead us to believe that the system autoresponder and follow up series will take care of everything for us. FALSE! Built- in follow ups in any system should be thought of as reminders to your prospects about your offers and nothing more. The prospect cant get to know like and trust the autoresponder series! The prospect needs to connect with the person behind the system. Automation removes some of the load of daily communication. But as a marketer that is serious about your business you also have a responsibility to connect with the people you want to buy something from you.
The famous question: I’ve got a new lead, what do i do now?!
So you bought some clicks and traffic is just flowing into your capture page! OMG! Now what? You can choose your own way of following up, however, this is the way I do it personally. Lets use this example, you walk into a store and the greeter has some coupons in his hand that you see him give to everybody that walked in before you. Now, its your turn to enter the store, the greeter doesnt say hello to you, doesnt make eye contact and even worse, doesnt offer you a coupon! The outrage! how would that make you feel? Terrible, Right?
Well, this is how many new marketers make new prospects feel, like they are not welcome. Always remember, your system and capture page are your online store. Begin treating it like one. When a person walks into your store for the first time, it is wise to greet them, introduce yourself, and give them freedom to look around your store. They might not buy today, but they will always remember how well you treated them when they visited your online ” establishment”.
The greeting email
Keep it simple, professional and friendly. Your greeting should not be long and drawn out. A simple ” hey Robert this is Julia. Thanks for taking the time to check out my offer. When you finish watching the presentation, contact me with any questions you may have” Friend me on facebook @…. Talk soon, full name, business phone number. See how easy that was!
Simple cordial messages go a long way. An even easier way to accomplish this is by making a message similar to the example above your day 0 message in your autoresponder. This way as soon as the prospects opts in they will receive this message.
Personally, I just keep my email greeting as notes on my mobile phone and send them personally to my opt-ins to avoid the risk of my greeting going into their spam box, but that’s just me.
Scheduling your Broadcast (we must think strategically)
Many marketers have specific days they choose to send email broadcasts. A popular schedule is Sunday,Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Sunday, many people are bored and more prone to open your emails (GOOD). Monday people are stressed and busy from their first day back to work (BAD). Tuesday reality has set in and they are back on track (GOOD).
Wednesday is the middle of the week and they are now stressed from work as usual and looking for an out, which you have to offer (GOOD). Thursday they are starting to lighten up because the weekend is near, plus payday is tomorrow, a good day to etch your offer in their minds (GOOD). Friday they are happy and have money if you did a good job yesterday, you may have a new team member today! They are either headed to the bar with friends or having a drink at home to unwind (BAD). Saturday is, errands day, party day, night club day, sports night, visiting or entertaining friends and family at home. They are not thinking about your offer today. And if they partied hard Friday night, they might be nursing a hangover!(BAD)
How often to Send Email Broadcasts
The days you choose to send your broadcasts are your choice. A good rule of thumb is at least four Broadcasts per week to your list. I started with this schedule but i have now increased to 6-7 days per week. Your goal in doing this is to not give the prospect time to forget you and your offer! Don’t be afraid to become a nuisance if the person did not want your emails, they would have never opted-in. Also if the person becomes annoyed with your messages they can easily unsubscribe.
If you get people to unsubscribe don’t worry about that, That’s actually a good thing, its your list cleaning itself. Which means now you are left with those who are interested and more likely to open and read your emails. A good idea is to let prospects know that they will be receiving emails from you in the coming days, weeks. I usually include that message in my greeting email, so that they know what to expect. Also inform them that if they don’t see your emails, check their junk/spam boxes.
OK, I get it. But what can I write about to my list everyday?
I’m glad you asked this question! It shows you have been paying attention. This ladies and gentlemen is your time to shine. This is your own Oprah’s favorite things moment with your list. Kid had a birthday? tell them about it,include pics of the birthday cake and presents if you don’t want to show your child. Interesting news article that you read? share it add your commentary ask for their opinions on the topic. Word of Caution: do not get political or too religious with your list, those are touchy topics for many people.
Made a sale today? share it and add a screenshot, that’s proof that its working for you. Have a Facebook profile? share your latest post and invite them to friend you. Have a you tube channel? share your latest video. Took your dog to the groomer? send them before and after pics of the pooch! Bought a new car, share it with them. And the list goes on and on… Anything that is important to you, share it with your list.
Where Know ,Like and Trust is Built
This is where Know, Like and Trust is cultivated: at the list, with your broadcasts. You are telling your list, “I’m an average person just like you, getting results with online marketing and you can do the same thing if you join my system and follow the steps”.As you are sharing these broadcasts with your list never lose sight of what you are doing growing your business. So at the end of every email include links to your company’s presentation, links to webinars, phone numbers to sizzle calls, etc but never forget to link them back to your business. Its the reason why we do this in the first place.
Never fully depend on your autoresponder to do the job of connecting with your list. That is solely your responsibility! Autoresponder messages can only remind, but they do not create a human connection with your prospects. If you have a non-responsive list, don’t let that stop you. A lot of today’s Built-in autoresponders have sent those same messages so many thousands of times, that many of them land in the spam and junk boxes.
That’s why I stress that you tell your prospects in your initial greeting message to check their spam/junk boxes on a continuous basis. Many of your prospects are not ignoring you, they are simply not receiving your emails! This is a huge problem with many built-in auto responders and the advice for that is to change the words around in these messages. Change the subject lines and the wording. I’ll get into more details and instructions about that subject in another post. I hope you enjoyed this article and apply these tips that, I do myself,to your own marketing efforts.I hope these tips will help get you on the path to creating your own economy.
Take a look at a budget-friendly, stand-alone autoresponder Here You may see much better open rates with these than with your system’s built-in autoresponder!
